Sending us your files

We accept your electronic files primarily in Macintosh format. PC users must send camera ready art work, such as line art that can be scanned and separations made from that: Or PC based electronic artwork can be used in Illustrator format, Photoshop Tiff files. Here's a list of categories from best to worse to help you understand the most preferable format.

Best

  • Mac Format Adobe Illustrator.CS1 or lower.

  • All art work needs to be in a vector format, not just an image placed into Illustrator.

  • Fonts must be converted to outlines.

  • If you are working in a PC version of Illustrator please be sure to save it with a Mac Preview!

  • We Can also use Freehand documents that are saved in Version 7 or lower, with the type converted to outlines.

Good

  • A High Resolution Tiff in Black and white The file needs to be between 300 and 800 DPI
  • A High Resolution JPEG in Black and white The file needs to be between 300 and 800 DPI
  • Note that any artwork that is multiple colors will need to be sent Color separated to avoid additional basic charges.

Average

  • A large size (Roughly 4" X 4") Camera Ready Art Slick A Quark Xpress Document Version 4.0
  • Note that the Document needs to be collected with all images being 300 dpi, and all font suitcases must be included.
  • If you are using a PC version of Quark Xpress please Save the file as an .EPS format. Then Open in Illustrator and convert the text to outlines. Not many PC fonts will work on a Mac
  • Note that we do not accept documents sent in an Adobe In design format, or in Corel Draw, or Microsoft Word.

Poor

  • While the things in the poor category can and have been worked with, they almost always accrue additional art charges beyond the normal basic range.
  • A Xerox of a Camera Ready Art Slick.
  • A Xerox of something that is in Color
  • A Fax of any kind.
  • A Business Card or Letter Head.
  • A Web Graphic

Transferring Files

To transfer an electronic file to the Image Builders Art Department you can use the following media.

  1. E-mail to
  2. CD, preferably Mac Formatted.

Be sure to put all fonts and font suitcases for type setting on the disk or convert the fonts to paths or outlines. Also label your disk with your business name and account number, so we can send it back to you. Artwork on documents needs to be saved as a TIFF file or converted to and EPS file that can be read from FreeHand or Illustrator, otherwise we do not have access to the file to do separations, chokes, trappings, etc.

The rule of thumb to remember is that Illustrator is always the easiest to use for all applications and designs.

Art should be "To Size" on your disk, if possible send a hard copy of your design to us with your disk.
